Training in the technique can also be accelerated without the need for new researchers to invest considerable time in exploring the subtleties of the technique in order to become proficient. The reporting of methodology can also be streamlined and the repeatability and analysis of the research simplified as a body of robust approaches is developed. As use of a standardized methodology increases, the ability to then compare against the “experimental norm” will also increase, making unusual or aberrant results easier to detect. Further, a standard technique facilitates exploration of associated biases without the need to encompass a potentially infinite number of alternate designs. Long-term or large spatial scale analyses often have considerable “noise” in the first place, so any reduction in this background variation is going to increase the chances of detecting ecological signals and reduce the need for complex analytical approaches (Niemelä et al. For example, collaborative research across larger global or temporal scales than is achievable for a single researcher becomes more straightforward. RIVPACS allows comparison of freshwater invertebrate assemblages and assessment of river health and relies on a standardized methodology where even details such as the dimension of the nets used to kick sample is controlled.Ī standardized methodology would deliver a number of benefits. One established example is River Invertebrate Prediction and Classification System (RIVPACS), which was designed specifically in response to the lack of comparability in the United Kingdom's National River Survey program during the 1970s (Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, 2015). In other cases, industrial standards are used to ensure large-scale standardized methodology (e.g., Levan 2015). This has been more rarely achieved, but there do exist collaborative studies where the use of identical methodology has been used in order to tackle research questions at larger spatial scales (Niemelä et al. A second option is to adopt standardized methods for data collection. However, this approach is not without its own share of potential pitfalls (Gotelli and Colwell 2001). One solution to the difficulty of comparing between smaller research projects is to rely on statistical methods to control for between-researcher idiosyncrasies, and approaches such as rarefaction have been used to allow comparison of species richness when sampling effort differs in this manner (Engemann et al. 2015) and is likely to become an emerging issue more widely. Lack of comparability across studies has recently been highlighted in other fields (Alivisatos et al. However, there exist significant difficulties in the analysis of long-term and spatially large data, especially where the methodology between researchers differs (Gotelli and Colwell 2001, 2011). The importance of long-term, standardized data collections has been highlighted in several recent publications (Fischer et al. This is especially relevant when this change concerns taxonomically difficult organisms (Peters et al. “Big data” generated from multiple researchers’ efforts is likely to become ever more important in unveiling the scope of biodiversity change. ![]() Ongoing loss of biodiversity is a global issue, necessitating investigation at multiple spatial and temporal scales (Magurran et al. Widespread adoption of more standardized methods and reporting would facilitate more nuanced analysis of biodiversity change. In addition, we provide a table to promote a more standardized reporting of the key methodological variables. We propose a standardized pitfall trap design for the study of ground-active arthropods. However, our results show that, counterproductive to this goal, over the last 20 years there has little progress in reducing the methodological variation. There is a growing need for improved comparability between studies to facilitate the generation of large-scale, long-term biodiversity datasets. We report a decline in the completeness of methodological reporting over a 20-year period, while there has been no clear reduction in the methodological variation between researchers using pitfall traps for arthropod sampling. Here, we present a meta-analysis and description highlighting this variation in a common, widely used entomological survey technique. The ability to draw meaningful comparison across studies is severely hampered by extensive variation in the design of the sampling equipment and how it is used. To understand change in global biodiversity patterns requires large-scale, long-term monitoring. I used both pumpkin and whitehorn and I feel obliged to make a comment that I found whitehorn a complete product and I still use their last version whenever i have to do config on my old school network probes - Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.29.238.226 ( talk) 20:53, 6 March 2012 (UTC) Reply So far we haven't managed to make any money with it except for some adsense revenue and 2 (two) paypal donations. While I am at it, I feel obliged to say they did promise to give credit, but there was no releases since their promise. Now that whitehorn seems to have disappeared I think I can say it aloud that it was a rip off of PumpKIN source (PumpKIN is opensource), a bit of change in appearance and marketing effort. I am not going to put a link that will be shortly removed myself, either. I am not going to conceal that I'm the author of the said software. I’m gonna be really broke that day.Ichigo Sato was born on January 5th to a baker and a mother of unknown employment status in Musashino, Tokyo, Japan and was raised in the neighborhood of Kochijōji. Ichigo Sato is worth playing simply for the fact that his sequel is like the Holy Grail of feels. Which is why he wasn’t initially one of my favorites. ![]() Kind of like a defiant kid that is throwing a tantrum.Īs small as this is, it’s still really annoying to me. At least until someone forces or cons him into it. He is also really lazy and more than willing to throw someone else under the bus if he gets out of work. He really has a bad attitude in the beginning and often makes really back handed comments. I think the only thing that I think I had a problem with is that he calls the MC fat from time to time, which is really annoying. Everyone pretty much figures it out except for Ryuzo. I think poor Rihito’s heart broke when he figured out why Ichigo wasn’t too pissed anymore when he teased the MC. Geezus…when I saw this, I about had a heart attack!Īs I was saying, he shows that he trusts in the MC more after they solidify their relationship. Then he shows even more growth after he and the MC spend the night together. The MC supports him, even if she will miss him terribly. I don’t find crying to actually be a very attractive aspect, in fact, I normally find it pretty off putting, but for how deeply the MC was hurt by not talking to her about this huge decision, his own confusion, and facing the regret he would feel if he didn’t try it makes sense that he would lose it in front of her. It not only shows the MC doubt in herself and her relationship with an actual reason, but it shows exactly how much Ichigo has been struggling with this decision himself. This is a very intense part of the sequel that I liked very much. Good job Voltage!Īnyway, Ichigo is given an opportunity to go abroad. That feeling of being left behind while everyone moves forward is very strong and common in a lot of people. The MC doesn’t really know what she wants to do in her future, and I think this is great because I relate a lot to that feeling. Which is another reason why I like “Dream Days in West Tokyo”, because it really starts with a childlike personality and romance that grows the longer you read. ![]() ![]() Which is great since it’s completely true. Ichigo’s ego (which is huge) takes a bit of a hit when he realizes that he isn’t putting forth the effort that others are. Ichigo is told that he cannot take over the cake shop until he proves that he really wants it, and not just accepting the responsibility halfheartedly. His possessiveness is very apparent during the beginning, not wanting any of the guys to touch her. He is much more open with his feelings with the MC since they had been dating for a few months by this point. However, when all the misunderstandings are cleared up he is really sweet. Doesn’t help that he is extremely jealous of his brother’s more honest and charismatic personality, and when it comes to the brother talking to the MC it makes matters worse. He feel that his brother is the ‘better’ son so all the emotional progress that seems to have been made sort of crumbles and he starts become reclusive. It’s obvious that Ichigo compares himself to his brother. It doesn’t help when his brother returns home after a few years absence and is welcomed back with open arms. This leads to a lot of family friction in both the main route and the sequel. Ichigo and his father seem to have the same problem with not being able to say their emotions directly, especially to one another. It’s funny because Johji plays along with it, even though he knows what’s going on. Ichigo shoots all other options down until he is the only option left. I think one of the things from the main route that sticks out in my mind the most from the beginning is when the floor in the MC’s room collapses, long story short, the girl needs a place to live. He originally comes off with a personality as bitter as black coffee, but the more time you spend with him reveals that he is actually sweet as sugar. I really like Ichigo’s inability to be honest and constant denial of his feelings. I’m sorry, but that hairstyle cracks me up. Ichigo wasn’t initially one of my favorites, but his sequel made me adore him. I won’t lie, I love “Dreamy Days in West Tokyo” so much that I actually wanted to play all of the main routes. ![]() The curriculum unites visual art and writing through the creation of artists' books, an art form especially suited to linking imagery and language.Īrt Junction: A Collaborative Art Space for Teachers and StudentsĪrtMatters Wiki A shared space to place and locate info and ideas on art.Īrt Education Videos This blog is a collection of videos suitable for the K-12 classroom.
